Growing the Kingdom’s Talent Pool and Retaining Knowledge

Launched in 2016, Saudi Vision 2030 is focused on transforming the Kingdom around three key pillars (a vibrant society; a thriving economy; an ambitious nation), several strategic objectives and national transformation programmes. The Saudi nationalisation scheme also known as Nitaqat is a key enabler of Saudi Vision 2030 but in addition to growing the talent pool in the Kingdom, it’s vital that the next generation of talent is also imbued with the knowledge that existing talent has accumulated.

This panel discussion will focus on:

  • What players in the built environment have already achieved in alignment with the nation’s focus on Saudisation? Is the industry on track to support and achieve Saudisation goals by 2030?
  • The latest rules and regulations of the Nitaqat system; what is of crucial importance to built environment stakeholders?
  • What are the challenges that private construction firms face, and what initiatives can the government role out to enable them to develop and retain motivated Saudi talent?
  • How are construction companies ensuring that knowledge is retained and passed on properly to the next generation of Saudi talent?
  • What is the current state of play of the Saudi talent pool in the built environment in terms of gender mix? What more can be done to encourage greater diversity?
  • Is the built environment engaging with educational institutions in the Kingdom enough, to ensure that the youth of tomorrow is interested in disciplines in the sector?
  • What have construction companies tried in terms of hiring Saudi talent and skills development/training that did not work? What can we learn from these unsuccessful attempts?

Panellists:

  • Clive Cashin / Project Director, Saudi Arabia, Serco
  • Faiyad Peterson / Country Director – KSA, Cundall

Driving Giga-Project Success

Through Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom is transforming a number of its key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, recreation and tourism. The ongoing delivery of this vision has seen the conceptualisation and development of several giga-projects that defy belief. This panel discussion will shine a light on the on-going development of these giga-projects.

This panel discussion will focus on:

  • The scope of Saudi’s giga-projects calls for collaboration across complex supply chains with multiple stakeholders; what role can technology play in terms of addressing traditional issues and bottlenecks?
  • What are some of the key challenges and risks multi-disciplinary construction firms face in delivering Saudi’s various giga-projects?
  • Sustainable development is crucial to fighting climate change – what should stakeholders rally around in order to sustainably deliver the Kingdom’s giga-projects? How can they also influence positive change to other project stakeholders?
  • Saudi Arabia has the opportunity to set global standards for the sustainable development and operation of its giga-projects as these are being delivered under the build-own-operate model. What should the Kingdom aim to achieve in terms of sustainable development?
  • Construction costs have been rising across the globe due to several drivers, including supply chain disruptions as a result of the pandemic. What impact is this having on the delivery of Saudi Arabia’s giga-projects and what can be done to mitigate these challenges?
  • What role can artificial intelligence, generative design and other disruptive technologies play with regards to the design, delivery and operation of these transformative projects?

Advanced water management in today’s mega-projects

This one-on-one session looks at the ongoing innovation in sectors such as drainage and water management that has accompanied the growth in scale of KSA’s acclaimed projects. It argues that the projects have themselves innovated traditional infrastructure services – and that we are soon set to see the impact of these changes regionally.

Sustainable Infrastructure

Robust infrastructure development is a key component of the Kingdom’s ongoing transformation in terms of ensuring that people and supply chains are resiliently connected within the country, and beyond its national borders. This panel discussion will deep dive into infrastructure within the Kingdom’s giga-projects

This panel discussion will focus on:

  • What is the current state of urban infrastructure development within the Kingdom’s giga-projects? What are some of the issues that have arisen and how have they been tackled?
  • Sustainable energy and water infrastructure is critical to the long term success of the Kingdom’s giga-projects; what is planned, what has been delivered, and what’s yet needed?
  • Next generation mobility solutions such as electric air taxis are being explored in the Kingdom; what supporting infrastructure and regulations are required to make these mobility solutions a reality?
  • The development of electric vehicles (EVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) is accelerating – what infrastructure does the Kingdom have to put in place to allow for these sustainable forms of transportation to operate successfully in the Kingdom?
  • How is the Kingdom enhancing rail transportation infrastructure to ensure that its various cities and giga-projects are better connected?

The role of Sustainability in modular construction

Modular construction is enabling dramatic improvements in speed of construction and brings many advantages, such as reduction of manpower levels on-site and therefore less physical risk. Yet these same fabrication methods can provide significant advantages in terms of sustainability, with new-age materials that significantly improve the eco-friendly profile of the overall macro-structure.
